DOG030872Former German Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher passed away. He led the German diplomacy at the time when Slovenia gained its independence. He was also the member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for European Perspective. He was 89 years old.

He was the German Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor from 1974 to 1992, which has earned him the title of the longest acting Foreign Minister in the West. He was at the head of the diplomacy of West Germany, when the Berlin Wall fell. After that, he became the first Foreign Minister of Germany.

He received the Golden Order of Freedom of the Republic of Slovenia in 1992, for the merits in the international recognition of Slovenia.


Umrl je nekdanji nemški zunanji minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher, ki je nemško diplomacijo vodil v času, ko se je osamosvajala Slovenija. Bil pa je tudi član svetovalnega odbora Centra za evropsko prihodnost. Star je bil 89 let.

Nemški zunanji minister in podkancler je bil od leta 1974 do leta 1992. Na čelu diplomacije takratne Zahodne Nemčije je bil v času, ko je padel berlinski zid, čemur je sledila tudi združitev obeh Nemčij. Tako je Hans-Dietrich Genscher postal prvi zunanji minister združene Nemčije.

Za svoje zasluge pri mednarodnem priznanju Slovenije pa je leta 1992 prejel zlati častni znak svobode Republike Slovenije.
