MostarThe Centre for European Perspective (CEP) and Vaso Pelagić Gymnasium in Brčko District, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will jointly implement the Fair of Resemblance on 21 and 22 April. This award winning project of the Intercultural Challenge competition will be set up in the form of various thematic fair stands and will encourage the young of BiH to find similarities and dialogue.

The project promoters plan to organize a two-day fair at which their ideas will be presented on 8 different fair stands: Pop Art stand, presenting contemporary culture with accompanying activities, including DJ, stand-up comedy, drawing the graffiti etc; Sweet Side of Tradition stand, where different national costumes and national food will be presented; Ask the Authority stand, where the visitors will get some answers on education issues, prepared by students; Give Ideas, Solve the Problems stand, which will show different posters, each introducing different problem, e.g. addiction, youth policy, reproductive health and more; Get to Know Yourself stand, where visitors will have an opportunity to do the psychological test with a psychologist; Good Vibrations stand, where volunteers would give free hugs and visitors could leave their contact details for further contact with the organisers; Socializing with Different Groups stand, where different performances like dance, karaoke singing etc. will take place; Home Town stand, where the local school will present itself.

The winning project – Fair of Resemblance ("Sajam sličnosti") – was prepared by five students from Vaso Pelagić Gymnasium (Mirela Ivkić, Ismet Bahor, Ena Merić, Radana Perkanović and Darija Žilić) with the assistance of their mentor, Ms Sanela Fejzić. The suggested purpose of the project is to connect young people of BiH in order for them to search for similarities rather than differences and draw their attention on the meaning of intercultural dialogue. In this manner the position of youth can be improved with the help of the education system. The Fair will be attended by fellow-students and teachers from Slovenia and other high schools/gymnasiums across BiH, representatives of CEP, Slovenian experts on intercultural dialogue, and government representatives from Brčko Districts as well as from other parts of BiH.

Messages delivered by fair organizers and visitors are planned to be further promoted with the help of the media and online social networks. The Fair of Resemblance can serve as an example of good practice of grass-roots intercultural dialogue therefore it is reasonable and advisable to promote similar actions on school and governmental levels all across BiH.

The Intercultural challenge was a gymnasiums community-wide contest aimed at encouraging the young from BiH to develop ideas for promotion of intercultural dialogue and understanding amongst cultures. CEP had received 49 project proposals altogether, 11 of which were selected as finalist projects by a special selection committee. A two-day concluding event was then organized in Mostar in November 2009, where the winning team was announced.
