RA_srecanje_napotitveCentre for European Perspective hosted the inter-ministerial working meeting on the implementation of the Strategy for cooperation of the Republic of Slovenia in international civilian missions and training for public servants for secondments in the international civilian crisis missions. The meeting was intended for representatives of all Ministries of the Republic of Slovenia, governmental offices and bodies affiliated to the Ministries. Its main objective was to encourage participants of the meeting to second civil servants to the civilian missions and to participate in the training for civil servants for secondments that CEP will implement in October this year.

Slovenia's cooperation in international civil missions is undoubtedly successful and the country enjoys in this field a great reputation in the international community. Slovenia currently participates in 8 civilian missions, with 25 seconded staff. To meet international commitments, Slovenia will have to continue to increase the number of civilians seconded to the international civilian mission and at the same time will have to increase the occupational diversity of seconded civilians. Occupations that civil missions lack are customs officers, judges, prosecutors, administrative staff and translators. Secondment to civilian missions is therefore interesting for all civil servants.

The meeting was convened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Žbogar, Minister of Interior Affairs Katarina Kresal and Minister for Defence Ljubica Jelušič and was attended by representatives of fourteen ministries and a number of governmental offices, bodies affiliated to the Ministries and judicial branch. The National Strategy for cooperation of the Republic of Slovenia in civilian crisis management missions was alongside with Slovene representatives discussed by Antti Häikiö, National Coordinator, Civilian Crisis Management Training, Research and Evaluation, Ministry of Interior, Finland whereas the needs on the ground and the importance of training for secondments were presented by Andrea Kienle, Training Co-ordinator, OSCE, Austria, Carsten Hansen, Senior Legal Advisor/Deputy Chief Legal Advisor, EULEX, Kosovo and Ivana Kiendl Kristo, Training Expert, Best Practices and Training Unit, EULEX, Kosovo.

Civil servants seconded to civilian missions should be properly trained. The Core training CEP will provide in October this year will enable this. Call for applications will be published on 24 June and will be open to all interested parties till 10 September 2010. Notification of acceptance will be send to selected participants by 20 September 2010. Training will be held from 11 and 24 October 2010.
